]]>Paper specialists Alliance Paper – a proud partner of Planet Ark – dispatched a batch of their educational thermal paper receipt rolls to various retailers in the hopes of reaching thousands of Australians with their message. The information on the back of the receipt rolls includes official health advice, a QR code that leads to additional information on the Australian Government’s website, and a reminder of the beneficial outcomes of social distancing.
Alliance Paper’s Managing Director, Jon Williams, said the decision to assist in educating the public on how they can prevent catching and spreading the virus was made after listening to concerned staff discuss their desire to contribute to ‘flattening the curve’.
“When some of the team said they wanted to help stop the spread of the virus, I thought what better way than to use an item that we are all seeing and handling on a daily basis,” explained Mr Williams.
The initiative has received support from Planet Ark’s CEO, Paul Klymenko, who congratulated Alliance Paper on their commitment to the health and safety of the Australian people.
“Alliance Paper is once again showing leadership by putting public safety at the forefront of their business. We hope these educational receipts will help break down misinformation in the community and convince individuals of the importance of social distancing,” said Mr Klymenko.
Planet Ark is working with Alliance Paper to provide safer and more responsible thermal paper receipts to Australian businesses. The partnership aims to phase out the use of paper products in Australia containing chemicals that are potentially harmful to our health and the environment, such as Bisphenol A (BPA) – a chemical commonly found in the coating of till receipts. Alliance Paper offers businesses an alternative with their range of safer BPA-free and Phenol-free thermal paper receipt rolls.
BPA can be absorbed into the body through the handling of receipts and these levels are increased when used with hand sanitisers and moisturisers; products frequently used by cashiers, especially during a pandemic. It is now more important than ever for businesses to fulfil their duty of care to their employees and customers by using safer receipts that are free of potentially harmful chemicals.

Everyone here at Alliance Paper is committed to providing the best possible service during this set of exceptional circumstances that we all currently face. It is therefore probably timely to confirm that we are very much open for business and ready to supply our customers including those in our critical industries with the Thermal receipt rolls they all need to keep trading.
We are in daily contact with our logistics partners – all of whom support the delivery of our products and we are here to support Australian businesses as much as we can.
As we all now accept that hand contact with cash is a high-risk virus transfer issue, the need for receipting processes to function seamlessly has become even more important. Alliance Paper remains at the forefront of Thermal receipt converting and we acknowledge that as an essential part of the retail business we need to continue to meet the increased demand of our supermarket customers and in fact all of our customers that are re-assessing how they do business.
We understand that many of you are struggling right now and recognize that you are looking at ways to change the way you do business to comply with the Government rules around closures and social distancing.
If you are in the hospitality industry and taking more takeaway and deliveries, you may well use more receipt rolls than usual. If you are in retail, you may well be using fewer rolls and watching the operational costs on everything in your business.
Regardless of what your situation might be, we are here to help if we can.
If your needs for products are changing, if your specification needs to change, or we need to work with you and your cashflow – call us for a chat.
We are all in this together and the success of Australian Business relies on us all to do our part.

]]>The big take away’s from my perspective was the intent that was committed from the opening address by our Prime Minister, the Hon. Scott Morrison. For those of us that heard it, he did make a few interesting and perhaps promising comments with respect to the waste issue.
“It’s our waste – it’s our responsibility and we need to take ownership.”
But perhaps my favourite was the commentary associated with the broader public perceptions on the real effectiveness of recycling…….” we are getting ripped off – the promise to recycle needs to be honoured by those making it and entrusted with the task….”
This struck a chord many times throughout the breakout sessions across the day, and more than once the complexity of a dysfunctional system across each state, and a lack of understanding of what goes into what bin in which region and which council, was a talking point with real relevance.
The need for a truly functional nationally standardised program across all states, will allow for real effectiveness in the future debates. But it will also allow for some practical strategy when we extend beyond plastics recycling and get to the good stuff – proper paper recycling.
We talked a lot yesterday about the need for plastics recycling and managing the waste streams, but we didn’t get to what are the alternatives to plastic (in specific markets) and that next level of discussion will deliver a whole new range of opportunities and challenges.

]]>Alliance Paper was invited to attend the advance screening of the new Film ” Dark Waters” that talks about a real-life issue and a true story.
With this research now released, we are all provided with some factual information to allow for meaningful commentary on one “Forever Chemical”.
There are other chemicals of concern, but this one can be reduced and even removed from commercial exposure in the simplest of products – so easily. If you are not sure how or why – call Alliance Paper for a chat.
Alliance Paper is proud to partner with Planet Ark and to lead the revolution. If you are not using or sourcing a Phenol-free solution in your Thermal printer we need to talk – now!

Rollo has had a few big days. From Friday 25th to Sunday 27th October, Rollo had the privilege to share the stage at the Brisbane Food and Wine Show with some of Australia’s leading Chefs.
Rubbing shoulders (and paper) with some of the biggest household names and real movers and shakers in home cooking in Australia, Rollo saw first hand how everyone is starting to embrace his fantastic product.
Rollo Wrap was both a give-away item for attendees at the Princess Cruises Theatre and was on sale across the 3 days of Brisbane’s premier Food and Wine event.
Alistair McLeod, Curtis Stone, Matt Moran, Matt Golinski and Miguel Maestre were all on hand to help Rollo introduce the Rollo Wrap range and provide some cooking tips.
We are not sure when we will see Rollo putting these to the test, but we know for certain that with Rollo Wrap in the kitchen everyone was doing their bit to minimize waste and making sure that food scraps and baking tray linings were all going to compost not landfill.

June 12th 2019 is an important day for Alliance Paper as we formally announce the Partnership with Planet Ark and provide the Thermal Paper and Food Packaging markets with safer and more environmentally responsible products.
In response to global trends and the recent European adoption of significant changes in the acceptable standards for the supply and use of Thermal Receipt Paper, Alliance Paper has launched a range of BPA and Phenol-free papers aimed at addressing the risks of human health and environmental contamination from chemicals of concern.
BPA was recognised several years ago for its capacity to act as an Endocrine inhibitor, and whilst the risk of exposure in baby bottles and infant formula packaging was addressed by voluntary phasing out, it has been overlooked for years by the general public and users of thermal paper as a retail receipts.
Alliance Paper is pushing forward to deliver a range of Thermal Papers free of BPA a move supported by Planet Ark.

Concurrent with the switch to BPA and Phenol-free Thermal Papers, Alliance Paper is launching a new range of Natural Food Wrapping papers. The Rollo Wrap range includes both greaseproof and a wet strength paper that are made from entirely natural source materials.
Unlike other products, the Rollo Wrap range provides real alternatives to single use plastic products and are Biodegradable, Compostable and Recyclable. There are no commonly used chemicals of concern, such as PFAS (per and polyfluoroalkyl substances) that have been acknowledged for adverse health impacts.

Sourced from FSC certified forests and coated with a special grease repellent layer of plant-based origin – the Rollo Wrap range is recognised in Europe by the Nordic Ecolabel – requiring high environmental standards of product and production.
“Alliance Paper believe the safety of staff should be of crucial concern to business,” said Jon Williams, Managing Director of Alliance Paper. “We are excited to work with Planet Ark to not only encourage the adoption of safer and more environmentally responsible alternatives in the thermal paper and food packaging markets, but to reinforce practises and processes in local Australian manufacturing.”
